Internships

25% of college students believe that higher education is not worth the price of attendance with associated cost of tuition, books, room and board according to a new Zogby Poll. Increasingly, it has become clear that formal education alone is lacking in providing the real-life skills that the current competitive workplace demands.

The internship program at LCO - Levine Communications Office is a rewarding experience extended to young professionals looking to gain knowledge and insight into the world of PR.   Former LCO Intern Testimonials

Arriving at Levine Communications Office was definitely an awakening of unmeasured proportions. I could not have shown up more unprepared for an internship that required not 100% but 150% of my time, energy, and dedication. Haven taken time off from marketing, I found myself searching for a new avenue and LCO was the perfect outlet. I do not think there is such a place in which staff, let alone interns, work so closely with the CEO/Founder of a company. Here at LCO you have access to that invaluable resource, mentorship, and experience. Working with Michael Levine was inspirational. He not only takes the interns under his wing, but he instills strong, life-learning lessons that indubitably facilitate the growth of any person. This internship program is rigorous, and in order to succeed you must be meticulous, organized and resourceful-all the things needed to do well. This was a chance of a lifetime and I recommend it for anyone who is searching for his or her PR break.

Levine Communications Office's internship program was not, I'll admit, what I expected. It was more. When I began my three-month internship, I had graduated college with a journalism degree and had spent over three years as a newspaper journalist. Having moved from Boston to Los Angeles with the idea that pursuing writing would be easier here, I received a wake-up call and had to rethink my options, which led me to LCO and an internship in a field - public relations - I didn't think interested me. I thought I knew the ins and outs of communication, but my time at LCO taught me that there are hundreds of facets to communication, only a few of which I knew. While I was able to use some of my previously learned skills, the LCO team instructed me on how to expand them, as well as how to turn my previous knowledge of communication into something that could work for me in any arena, whether it is in the public relations field or another. Over the 12 weeks I interned at LCO, my mentor, Eddie Garcia, and the rest of the publicists challenged me to see no limits to what I could learn, and instilled in me the confidence that I can, indeed, take on a difficult field like PR with determination and skill. I am entirely confident that whatever career I decide to pursue, what I've learned at LCO will become some of the most important and pertinent information I have. To put it simply, an internship at LCO is extremely challenging and certainly not for the faint of heart, but also stimulating and rewarding.

Working for Michael Levine is an experience that I will never forget. I believe that all of the knowledge that I gained in my months at LCO will continue to help me in both my career and my personal life. The three primary lessons that are taught throughout the internship are to over-communicate, over-check and over-prepare. All of which I believe will help any individual thrive in all aspects of their life. Michael pushes you to use these tools to be the best at what you do, and being the best at anything is not an easy task. But, if you want to be a success in life you need to strive to be the best at everything you do. And Michael pushes you to do that. Graduating from an internship with Michael Levine is an honor and something not many people are lucky enough to do. This internship was just the first step in what I have done to be the best publicist I can be. As Michael says “It seems your moment’s at hand, a chance in a lifetime in a lifetime of chance.”

I am so grateful to have been able to intern under the direction of Michael Levine and the rest of the LCO team. Each individual at LCO has mentored me in a different way and truly strengthened my growth as a young professional. From every challenge I faced to accomplishment I was able to achieve, the team continuously provided me with guidance and support to perform to the best of my ability. The more effort I put into this internship the more responsibility and knowledge I was able to take out of it. I was able to work on the creation of different pitches and proposals, attend new business meetings, verbally pitch local and national media outlets, attend interviews with national publications and work directly under Michael and his Vice Presidents. I came into this experience not really knowing what public relations was all about and am now confident to say that I am ready to embrace the next phase of my professional career in the entertainment industry. Interning at LCO has truly been a rewarding experience and I only wish that everyone could have the opportunity to be part of such a dynamic organization.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere at LCO. The office was smaller so the employees all collaborated with each other often. It made it easier for me as an intern to open up and ask questions when needed. Everyone in the office was very easy to get along with and was always available to help me. They were also very encouraging and often praised interns who completed projects exceptionally. They gave interns the room to perform for themselves and take action. LCO gave me the opportunity to learn how to network and to how to be proactive about keeping contact lists current. Through LCO I learned how to write proper pitches when introducing a new client to media outlets. LCO is a great place to learn the proper publicist skills if this is the career you are choosing to follow.

LCO left me with the knowledge that I can do a multitude of things and have the ability of learning a field that I had no previous knowledge of. The knowledge that Michael has is incredible. Take notes in what he says and put it to use. He says things for a reason, just look where it has taken him. PR is not my field, but "reaching out" to people and securing contacts with various companies.  As a business major, networking is key and this internship showed me so much about making connections. That’s what PR is all about right? Who you know? While at LCO, I learned valuable research skills and how to communicate effectively within a group.

The working environment at LCO was great. The people were friendly and brought humor to such a professional environment. The staff makes you feel as though you are part of the team and constantly is there to help. I enjoyed working closely with others on projects and different clients. It shows you how to work towards a goal. I am a fond believer of knowing the ins and outs of a company and to have experience in each field. So running errands and making copies may be tedious, but it was some of the best experience that I could have obtained. Knowing how things work and why will progress you further than your peers because you took that extra step.

When I was there Michael gave a speech at one of those Friday meetings about the history of the company. He mentioned his beginnings and that he had a rough start. He looked for people as interns and they would ask him, "What can you do for me?" He replied “I can give you a chance". I want to thank LCO for my chance. Since then I see every opportunity as a chance and looking what I can do, not necessarily what benefits I can reap from it. I would like to thank him and you as well Patricia for giving me this chance. I hope to take what you and the others at LCO have taught me and make something from it.

You’ve already helped me so much. Let me take this opportunity to tell what an awesome man you are. As one of your former interns (Levine & Schneider) I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with you. And I am so honored to cross paths with you again.

I was an intern for you while I was at UCLA, and your firm was launching Tarantino (right before Pulp Fiction). I received credit for one quarter at your firm. It was while I was in school and working that I began acting. Acting led me to production of films and events. I recently co-produced my first film. And I work with Sequoia Production on the Governor’s Ball.

And then I also direct the Arpa Film Fest, and I will be producing the Los Angeles Greek Fest in June. I work with talent to get the best possible award presenters to present trophies at our awards gala. Over the years we’ve had a fine array of actors and musicians attend our events, and I would love to support any of your clients any way I can, and discuss ways to take Arpa to a broader audience.
